| Yes it's possible. This is why they have auditions. Jennifer Lopez had very little acting experience when she first got started. She was a dancer for the most part and then there were a few short film acts until she got her big break. When she auditioned for the "Selena" role the odds were against her. There were three thousand other girls auditioning for the role and she got the part. It's all about talent. You may have no experience and then one day you get an audition and have a really good day when the best of your acting comes out and then you get a break. Everybody starts someplace. Sometimes it's all about connections too. Although Janet Jackson came from a known family in entertainment she had no acting experience when she was young until one night she went to a birthday party for a producer from "the good times." She wanted a part and gave the producer a birthday gift and the producer acted like he didn't like the gift so he made her cry and then she got the part in the sitcom just because she showed emotions. It's hard for anybody to get a big break in major motion pictures but everybody that does always has some kind of story like the two that I just shared. It's all about digging deep and showing deep determination and acting your heart out. If you're the chosen one then a casting director or somebody strong in the industry will notice your hidden talent and then you get found. It's rare but it happens. Don't give up! |

| If I had to choose, I would prefer independent films to blockbusters. Mainly for the same reasons that you already indicated. Indie films concentrate on the story and acting more because they don't have the money for special effects. But all a good movie needs is a good story, good acting, and good direction. Nowadays, it's actually harder to make a good big budget film because of all the distractions caused by the special effects and all the money to play with. Just look at Transformers... not that Michael Bay was ever a brilliant director, but he was caught with a whole lot of money in the budget and sort of forgot there was a story to tell in 2 1/2 hours. But then give the big budget to someone like Peter Jackson and he'll make gold. That's the main reason why the Oscar's Best Picture nominees have been dominated by independent films. Not because the critics and the public prefer different films. It's because special effects is usually a distraction for big budget films and it makes it twice as hard for a filmmaker to really focus on the story and not the explosions. |
